Youth Mentoring Program

Youth Mentoring Program
Mentor's Responsibilities

1.  Keep a record of any information such as name, addrss, phone number, parents name, birthdays, and any other important information of the youth you are mentoring.

2.  Contact the youth at least once every two weeks by phone, card, email, personal visit etc.

3.  Show a genuine concern for them by finding out their interests, how they are doing, getting prayer requests, ask how their quiet times are going, scripture memory etc.

4.  If they are involved in some type of sport or other extra curricular activity try to attend sometimes.

5.  Pray with them and for them.

6.  Go through discipleship material with them if they are saved.  ( see Chris)

7.  Send a birthday card and a card for any other special occasion.

8.  Try to get to know the youth's parents.  Tell them who you are and that you are with FBC Union and let them know you are taking part of the mentoring program.

9.  Help with youth accountability in their relationship with Christ (if saved)

10.  Encourage faithful church attendance and invite them to monthly men's meetings.

11.  Remind them of the importance of obeying their parents, loving them, and praying for them.

12.  Encourage them in their studies adn help them if you can.

13.  Rmind them of upcoming youth ministries, events and activities.

14.  If the youth is not a Christian then look for opportunities to share the gospel but don't shove it down their throats.  Be a friend.  If you are not sure about the youth's salvation ask them to give you their salvation testimony.  No matter where they stand just plain LOVE them with the love of Christ.  Build a relationship.

15.  Take them with you on some ministry that you do such as a home or hospital visit, witnessing, service project, etc.

Seek to honor God with your conversations and give the youth biblical counsel in how to handle any situation.  If you are not sure about a question they may  have just let them know you will get back to them.  BE REAL!  Be a Godly example before the youth (not perfect, but consistent).

Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations , baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
